Uruguayan Timber

Brettstapel is a simple concept, using falling boards to create massive timber sections for direct use in construction. The technique uses long dowels to hold the boards together, which expand to create a rigid surface. The technique is commonly used in Germany and Austria due to the large supplies of available timber.
Brettstapel
- Massive timber method exploiting falling board size elements
- Falling boards stacked horizontally or vertically and held together with kiln dried dowels with extremely low moisture content
- These dowels expand as the water held in the timber equilibriates within the system creating a rigid component
- Best suited to off site manufacture although similar log construction systems have onsite potential
- Huge environmental benefits due to breathability of the timber and the quantity used, and offsite construction leads to simplicity on site and modularity
- Timber-only joints between panels have been unexplored
