Uruguay, like most developing nations, has a need for low income housing. The shortage of housing across Latin America in the late twentieth century is due to the large scale migration of citizens from rural to major urban areas.

Now that high quality timber is easily accessible and readily available from Uruguayan sources , there is a view that timber can be used as a solution in construction. Current timber construction techniques have been detected as having bad performance, a high cost of construction and with a design that disregards the user's identity and needs.

This project can hopefully benefit many different groups. First and foremost, we are aiming to change an attitude to the use of timber in construction in Uruguay by providing a simple solution which can be used in a range of housing solutions. This would therefore assist institutions and companies providing timber products.

However the larger problem is clearly the housing shortage seen across Latin America. A larger goal would therefore be to help develop knowledge in a sustainable practice that we hope can change peoples situations for the better.
